Since Satan's ascendancy following the rejection of God by Adam we have been confronted by the sin-driven emotions of lust, jealousy, envy, pride, anger, and many more. Sin is the result of man's separation from God. Sinful behavior and self-destruction are partners.
Delusion reigns in the life of those who do not respect the Creator and Divine Lawgiver. To cut through the deception and conquer harmful emotions within, we must humbly turn our eyes back to God and His Word. "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace" (Romans 6:12-14).
The mercy reflected in the gift that accompanies the new birth in Christ is for all, but some do not accept it. "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life [having rejected Christ's gift of forgiveness] was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:15).
